Request for Proposals to utilize $50,000 of grant funds for the purpose of furthering historic preservation in the city

 

 

During the development of the multi-dwelling unit project located at 1043 Indiana Street, commonly known as Varsity House, an issue related to meeting the conditions of relocating the Varsity House arose.  An outcome of addressing the issue was that the owner deposited $50,000 with the Douglas County Community Foundation for the purpose of providing a grant(s) for the furthering of historic preservation within the city.  Those funds are in place awaiting a project.

 

City staff and the Douglas County Community Foundation staff prepared the attached RFP in order to begin the process of using the funds.  More than one project could receive funding and the city may submit projects as well since there are many public projects in need of funding that could further historic preservation in the city.

 

Submittals will be reviewed by city and Douglas County Community Foundation staff with final acceptance being selected by the City Commission and approved by the Douglas County Community Foundation.  Please see the RFP for additional proposal requirements.

 

Action Requested: 

Direct Staff to issue a Request for Proposals to utilize $50,000 of grant funds for the purpose of furthering historic preservation in the City of Lawrence.
