RE: |
FAA Grant
|
The FAA has sent the City what is referred to as the “Go” letter. Basically this is the “Notice to Proceed” to prepare plans for improvements at the Lawrence Municipal Airport. The project consists of safety improvements and upgrades to the lighting and signage systems at the Airport.
The project is scheduled for next spring. The FAA will approve the grant pending funding being approved through Congress so nothing is a guarantee, but this is the typical process.
On November 12, 2013, the Commission accepted the grant from the FAA.
Airport Development Group (ADG) was selected based on qualifications and FAA guidance to be the City’s airport engineer in October 2012 for 5 years.
Attached is the proposal from the ADG for design and inspection support. The City will do the daily inspections and ADG will assist with FAA required documentation and submittals. The total project cost is approximately $276,000 for construction and $39,500 for engineering and inspection, for a total of $315,500. The FAA program is a 90/10 cost share, therefore the City’s share will be approximately $32,000.
Action Requested: Authorize the City Commission to execute the agreement with ADG for engineering services for airport improvements in an amount of $39,500.
Respectfully Submitted,
Charles F. Soules, P.E.
