RE:

3 December 2013 City Commission Agenda Item

Bob Billings Parkway & Stone Meadows Drive

Traffic Signal

Background

On November 4, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to construct a TRAFFIC SIGNAL at the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway & Stone Meadows Drive. Traffic data collected September 23-24 for a 24-hour period, found that none of the Warrants for consideration of a Traffic Signal found in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices are currently met. In addition, Police Department records show only one (1) reported crash in the past three (3) years at the intersection susceptible to correction by a Traffic Signal.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, two (2) members of the public addressed the Commission in support of the request; no one spoke in opposition. It was noted that sight distance at the intersection is poor and there is not another convenient way for residents of the area to get to the east. The Commission felt that other streets in the area would probably carry more traffic than Stone Meadows Drive and did not support recommending action that did not meet minimum criteria. A motion to recommend denying the request to construct a TRAFFIC SIGNAL at the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway & Stone Meadows Drive carried, 8-0.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
