Background

On November 4, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to establish NO PARKING 7AM-5PM or 6PM MONDAY-FRIDAY or NO PARKING 7AM-5PM or 6PM SCHOOL DAYS along the south side of Overland Drive from Champion Lane, east 1225 feet. Parking is currently prohibited along both sides of Overland Drive. Overland Drive is classified as a “collector” street and is paved 30 feet wide which is sufficient to permit parking along one side of the street.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, two (2) representatives from Theater Lawrence addressed the Commission in support of the request; no one spoke in opposition. It was noted that Theater Lawrence does not have sufficient off-street parking to accommodate staff, cast members and patrons. They would like to be good neighbors, but they have caused parking problems for other businesses in the area. The Commission had concerns about sufficient sight distance at intersections, driveways and the approach to the curve on Overland Drive. A motion to recommend establishing NO PARKING 7AM-6PM MONDAY-FRIDAY along the south side of Overland Drive from Champion Lane, east 1225 feet carried, 8-0.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
