RE:

19 November 2013 City Commission Agenda Item

Jana Drive at Rogers Place

No Parking

Background

On October 7, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to establish NO PARKING along the east side of Jana Drive from 50 feet north of Rogers Place to 50 feet south of Rogers Place. Jana Drive is classified as a local street in a residential area and is paved approximately 24 feet wide. Parking is currently permitted along both sides of Jana Drive except along the west side of the street adjacent to Rogers Place.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, three (3) residents spoke in favor of the request, noting that the hill on Rogers Place is one of the steepest in the city and makes it very difficult to turn onto Jana Drive in the winter when it is slick, even with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. In addition, one (1) individual had submitted e-mail correspondence prior to the meeting supporting the request. A motion to recommend establishing NO PARKING along the east side of Jana Drive from 50 feet north of Rogers Place to 50 feet south of Rogers Place carried, 6-2; the two (2) negative votes were concerned about the reduction in adjacent property values, the lack of reported crashes and that it was a seasonal problem.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
