RE:

19 November 2013 City Commission Agenda Item

Kasold Drive & Riverview Road

Multi-Way Stop

Background

On October 7, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to establish a MULTI-WAY STOP at the intersection of Kasold Drive & Riverview Road. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices provides the criteria for consideration of a Multi-Way Stop including where a traffic signal is warranted, reported crash experience and a minimum volume of traffic. Traffic data collected September 4-5, 2013 found that the minimum volume requirement is not satisfied and Police Department crash records indicate that the crash criterion is not met either.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, one (1) resident spoke in favor of the request, noting that it is difficult for pedestrians to cross the street at this intersection and there are not sidewalks for children walking to Deerfield School to get to any other location to cross. The Commission did not feel that a Multi-Way Stop was the answer; however, this may be a candidate for a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon. A motion to recommend denying the request for a MULTI-WAY STOP at Kasold Drive & Riverview Road carried, 8-0.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
