RE: |
Authorization of payment to Cogent for by-pass pump rental
|
Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the November 19, 2013 meeting:
Authorize the City Manager to approve the payment to Cogent for $19,439.27 for the rental of pump and piping during repairs of the Kaw Water Treatment Plant intake pump station.
Project History
The Utilities Department is moving forward on a plan to rehabilitate specific electrical and mechanical components at both water plants and the wastewater plant, as well as some of the ancillary structures to increase reliability and maintain current infrastructure. As part of this program, the low service pump station for the Kaw Water Treatment Plant required modifications to pipes, electrical equipment, and the building structure. The low service pump station is the main supply of water from the Kaw River intake to the Kaw Water Treatment Plant. To complete the necessary work, Utilities staff arranged for an alternate pump, piping and other equipment to supply water to the plant during the planned shutdown. The original quote from the supplier was for $14,597.70 (PO#008782) as the sole source due to the size of the pump required and the ability to supply the equipment in the time frame necessary to complete the job.
Project Status
The vendor supplied the equipment as planned and the project was completed as required. However additional costs were incurred with the rental of this equipment above the original purchase order amount. The final total was $19,439.27.
Project Funding
Funding is from the Utilities Department 2013 Operations and Maintenance Budget.
Action Request
Authorize the City Manager to approve the payment to Cogent for $19,439.27 for the rental of pump and piping during repairs of the Kaw Water Treatment Plant intake pump station.
