RE:	Bid date for building security systems for the Lawrence recreation center at Rock Chalk Park

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the November 5th, meeting:

Set a bid opening date of November 26, 2013, for the building security systems needed for the Lawrence recreation center at Rock Chalk Park.

Project Description

As we anticipate the opening of our new recreation center in 2014, there is a need to purchase owner supplied equipment that will be installed as the building is constructed. The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests the bidding of the building security systems. This will include the purchase and installation of security cameras, wiring, recording devices and door access control systems for the interior of the building. We will also include a bid option to add parking lot security cameras to the property. It is anticipated wiring and mounting brackets for the interior security system will need to be installed in early 2014 during construction of the building. Cameras and other electronic equipment will be installed in the spring of 2014.   

Project Funding

It is estimated that the total cost for both phases of this project will be $60,000 -$70,000 and will be funded using the Sales Tax Reserve Fund.

Action Request

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to set a bid date of November 26, 2013, for the security systems needed for the Lawrence recreation center at Rock Chalk Park.
