RE: |
Project PW1303 – 9th Street & Kentucky Street Intersection Improvements Traffic Signal Improvements, Sidewalk Ramp Installations |
Project Description
The 9th Street and Kentucky Street project includes the installation of new traffic signals and controller as well as ADA compliant sidewalk ramps on each corner of the intersection. This project upgrades the 9th & Kentucky traffic signals to match improvements made to the corridor this past summer with the 9th & Tennessee project. In that project, 9th Street was milled, repaved, and restriped to a five lane section with two thru lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. This project will upgrade the current 9th & Kentucky signal system to match that of the new 9th & Tennessee signal system. New sidewalk ramps will also be constructed for pedestrian access to downtown Lawrence (see attached plan).
Project Funding
The estimated project cost is $183,000. The project is being funded with Federal-aid funds that cover ninety percent (90%) of the participating construction and construction engineering costs (inspection) with a project cap of $200,000. The remaining ten percent (10%) and all other costs associated with the project are funded by the city from the general fund. The project cost does not include the cost of engineering design or construction engineering services. Public Works staff is designing the project in-house and will be providing construction inspection. No property acquisition is required.
