Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: An unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, multiple sclerosis (MS) disrupts the flow of information between and individual’s body and brain; and
WHEREAS: MS affects an estimated 2.5 million worldwide, 400,000 in the United States and over 4,000 people living with MS in Kansas; and
WHEREAS: Often first diagnosed in individuals aged 20-50, MS is the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults; and
WHEREAS: Bike MS is a series of 100 extraordinary cycling events across the country and on September 14 – 15, 2013, Lawrence will welcome the Kansas City Bike MS Ride to South Park; and
WHEREAS: Bike MS Kansas City participants will begin their journey in Olathe, Kansas on September 14 and travel west to Lawrence for an overnight stay in South Park and then travel back to Olathe to end the event;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael Dever, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim September 14-15, 2013 as
in the City of Lawrence and encourage everyone to support this event and welcome the participants to Lawrence as they raise awareness of this debilitating disease.
