Five permits were issued for public projects in June, including a permit for a new recreation center at 101 George Williams Way valued at $10,500,000; a permit for the BTBC Incubator Lab Phase II at 2029 Becker Drive valued at $6,650,425; a permit for portable classrooms at Kennedy School, 1605 Davis Road valued at $50,000; a permit for portable classrooms at Sunset School, 901 Schwarz Road valued at $30,000; and a permit for the installation of a heat pump and air handling system for the Holcom Park Recreation Center at 2601 W 25th Street valued at $4,150.

The highest valued projects for the month included a permit for construction of a new Marriott TownePlace Hotel, 900 New Hampshire, valued at $13,800,000; the recreation center at 101 George Williams Way valued at $10,500,000; and the BTBC Incubator Lab Phase II project at 2029 Becker Drive valued at $6,650,425.

These statistics are of interest in tracking construction activity in the community, but only partially tell the story for staff workload and performance.  Staff has established performance goals of completing “initial” reviews for residential permits within 5 business days and for commercial permits within 15 business days of the application date.  An initial review is a comprehensive first review of an application and plans for a building project, and may include review work performed by staff from Planning and Development Services, Fire Prevention Division, Utilities, Public Works Departments and other relevant review agencies depending on the nature and scope of the project.  Initial and subsequent reviews and comments are tracked in the Innoprise permit tracking system from which reports may be extracted.  Development Services staff is responsible for coordinating review work and disseminating review comments to applicants.  In July, staff completed 105 of 120 (87.5%) residential reviews within 5 business days, and 105 of 113 (92.9%) commercial reviews within 15 business days.  The following table tracks performance in meeting these objectives.
