On March 12, 2013 the City of Lawrence opened bids for the following:  

Bid#1312 –  TWO (2) HEAVY DUTY WATER TRUCKS WITH DUMPING FLATBEDS

Two heavy duty water trucks were approved for Parks and Recreation on March 19, 2013.  They will be used by the landscape crew to haul and spray effluent and or nitrogen rich water for trees in medians.  They will carry approximately 8,000 pounds of reclaimed water. The bid specifications called for bi-fuel conversions for the trucks to run on CNG or gasoline. At the time of the bid no EPA approved kits were available. The trucks were configured to accept the CNG conversion after assembly and the trucks were ordered.

EPA and CARB have now verified kits for these trucks and they are available from two manufacturers, Lanzi Renzo and Westport Wing.  Westport Wing is a Ford approved installer and the process can be completed by a change order to the original purchase order to include the conversions.

Recommendation Action:

Approve bid for two (2) bi-fuel conversions to be performed by Westport Wing for the Parks and Recreation Department water trucks for $30,658.00.    (Parks and Recreation / Landscaping)
