RE:	Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission request for enhanced funding for the Celebration of the 25^th Anniversary of the Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition in 2013

Please place the following item on the consent agenda for the December 18, 2012 agenda:

Consider recommendation from the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission for an additional $5000 allocation for 2013 to support the 25^th anniversary celebration of the Lawrence Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition.

Background:

At its meeting on December 12, 2012, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission voted (see draft minutes) to request additional funding assistance from the City Commission for the 25^th Anniversary of the Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition (ODSE) for 2013.  The additional funding would be utilized to enhance the honorarium provided to sculptors for the 2013 year.

The LCAC also discussed providing enhanced publicity about this year’s exhibition. The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission has also decided to change this year’s ODSE program to highlight local artists by limiting the exhibition entry criteria to artists located within a 15 mile radius around Lawrence.  The LCAC is requesting the funding be designated as soon as possible for planning purposes for the 2013 exhibition.

Requested Action:

Consider an additional $5000 allocation for 2013 to support the 25^th anniversary celebration of the Lawrence Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition.
