RE: |
Tire Machine and Balancer Replacement |
Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the December 11, 2012 meeting:
The Central Maintenance Garage staff has been evaluating tire repair machines and heavy duty tire balancers. Our current equipment has some serious limitations. Our 1997 Coates tire machine requires two people to lift the 17 inch through 19.5 inch wheels and tires onto the machine for repairs. In addition to being a safety concern it disrupts productivity.
The Hoffman tire balancer was the only machine that would handle all the different sizes required at the time of it was purchased. This unit has many maintenance issues and required numerous service calls to keep it operational.
We interviewed several agencies and high volume tire operations including the two recapping suppliers we use. It was determined that the Hunter TCX575W tire machine and the Hunter FM02 tire balancer were the most cost effective to own and operate for an operation with as large a volume as we have.
Both machines and the accompanying adapters can be purchased from the NJPA government purchasing contract. Total purchase price for both machines installation and operator training is $30,359.71.
The Central Maintenance Garage 2012 budget has funding available to cover this project.
Authorize the Public Works Department to purchase one Hunter tire machine and one Hunter tire balancer from the NJPA government contract in the amount of $30,359.71.
