Project Description
The 23rd Street and O'Connell Road intersection improvement project includes signalization of the 23rd Street and O'Connell Road intersection, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, and storm sewer work. Proposed geometric improvements include:
1. An eastbound left turn lane at 23rd Street and O'Connell Road.
2. Concrete medians on 23rd Street.
3. Construction of a new approach for O'Connell Road north of the intersection of 23rd Street and O'Connell Road.
The improvements at 23rd and O'Connell will serve the future extension of O'Connell to the north as the primary entrance to the future industrial park at the former Farmland site. Signalization of the intersection will also assist future commercial and residential access on the south side of 23rd Street.
Traffic will be maintained with two lanes eastbound and westbound throughout the project and access will be maintained to all adjacent properties. Construction is anticipated to conclude by March 30, 2013.
Project Funding
The estimated project cost is $660,499.40 and the project is being funded with General Obligation Bonds (Resolution 6940, Ordinance 8659). The bonds are also funding the design cost for the intersection and the Farmland Master Plan as shown below.
