Set Bid Date of December 11, 2012 – City Bid No. B1272 Project PW1233 – 2012 Crosswalk Marking Project |
Introduction
Pavement markings are an integral part of the streetscape and play a very important role in channelizing and guiding the road users, including motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. It is important to maintain the visibility and retro-reflectivity of pavement markings in order to improve traffic flow and safety. Intersection pavement markings, crosswalks and stop lines, present a maintenance problem due to vehicles accelerating, stopping and turning, creating shear on the markings. As a result, they usually wear-out much quicker than other markings. At the February 7, 2012 City Commission meeting, the Commission authorized the expenditure of $35,000 to begin a program for contract maintenance of crosswalks and stop lines at intersections.
Project Details / Status
This project consists of grinding the pavement and gluing intersection-grade pavement marking material in place for crosswalks and stop lines. This project will begin in the Central Business District where the highest number of pedestrians is concentrated. A total of 30 crosswalks and stop lines at 15 intersections will be targeted (list attached); however, crosswalks across New Hampshire Street and Vermont Street will not be addressed since both streets are scheduled to be “milled and overlaid” in 2014.
