RE:	Airport Pavement Maintenance Project

The Lawrence Municipal Airport is located on Highway 24/40 approximately 1 mile northeast of town.  The Airport has two runways identified as 15-33 which is approximately 5,700 feet and Runway 1-19 approximately 3,900 feet.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is programing a maintenance project for Runway 15-33 that includes crack sealing.  In discussions about the condition of the Runway surface, this project may be expanded to include a surface seal treatment (i.e. microsurfacing).  The FAA will pay for 90% of the construction and engineering.  The estimated crack sealing project is $71,000 plus or minus.  This estimate will increase if additional work is determined to be necessary. 

The process and schedule is: 

• The Airport operator is to select a consultant by mid-November
• Project scope is defined and agreement with consultant by mid-December
• Project bid in March
• Project grant approval and construction to proceed in May

Action Request:  Authorize staff to receive qualification statements for the Airport Pavement Maintenance Project.
