RE: |
Grant Opportunity: ChargePoint and LillyPad EV |
Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the 10/09/2012 meeting:
Background Information:
In 2011, the city’s fleet manager and sustainability coordinator collaborated with researchers at KU, Westar staff, and the Metropolitan Energy Center to explore the potential for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Lawrence. The City is participating in the Electrify Heartland effort with these partners, and was recently made aware of a grant opportunity for EV charging stations in workplaces.
The
grant is offered through ChargePoint’s
Jumpstart Program. The offer is available to workplaces that are not
existing ChargePoint customers and which have at least 50 employees at the
location. Application must be made by Oct 11.
This program offers:
The recipients must commit that the charging station will be installed by Jan 31, 2013. LilyPad EV will do the installations.
Current Status:
The City of Lawrence has been tentatively approved to participate in this project with the approval of the City Commission. If the City is selected, tentative placement would be at the Riverfront Parking Garage, New Hampshire Street Parking Garage, or the new 700 block of Vermont parking garage.
Funding:
The City would be responsible for the cost of the installation estimated at $3,000 and the licensing fees of $230 per year beginning the second year after installation. Funds are available in the Central Maintenance Garage for the installation.
Action Request:
If appropriate approve proceeding with the grant application.
