RE:

700 Vermont Street Parking Garage – needs of Senior Center and Fire/Medical Department during construction

With the construction of utility/site work and the 700 Vermont Parking Garage with the library project beginning later this year, the parking needs of the Senior Center and the Fire/Medical Department during construction will need attention.   Currently, there are assigned parking spaces on the southern portion of the parking lot for Douglas County Senior Services (DCSS) use.  During construction, parking for the meals and transportation vehicles (9) will be established on Kentucky Street (west side of the Fire Station) and in the two hour lot across from the front of the DCSS building.   Four spaces on the north side of 8th Street, just west of Vermont Street, will be marked off for DCSS visitor parking. Volunteers, meal site clients, staff, and other visitors will need to make use of the on street parking and nearby city lots.  This is deemed necessary because these vehicles need to park near the DCSS building for the transport of meals, citizens, and other deliveries.  Once parking garage construction is completed, the DCSS will be able to use parking areas between the parking garage and the DCSS building for their use.  Additionally, approximately three spaces in the new parking garage will be assigned for DCSS staff use.

The City’s Memorandum of Understanding with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1596 requires the City to provide parking for Fire/Medical Department personnel assigned to Station No. 1.  Douglas County Bank has graciously agreed to allow for these personnel to use available bank parking spaces southwest of Station No. 1 during both the current roof repair work and also during the parking garage construction.  The assistance of Douglas County Bank is appreciated in this matter.   Once the parking garage is constructed, Fire/Medical personnel can use the parking garage for their needs.
