RE:

Repairs to Crestline Drive

City Commission Agenda Item On September 18, 2012

Earlier this summer, the City participated with the University of Kansas to rebuild Constant Avenue and the intersection at 19th & Iowa Streets.  The project is complete.

Crestline Drive, south of Bob Billings Parkway to Irving Hill Road is a KU roadway.  The roadway has failed in several areas.  The University is going to rebuild the intersection at Irving Hill and Crestline Drive.  They are also going to do the necessary pavement removal and repair to failed areas.  The University has asked if the City could participate with this project because the Bob Billings Parkway and Iowa Street projects will proceed next year and the City has recognized that Crestline will be used by the public as a detour.  Official detours will be Kasold Drive, 6th Street, and 23rd Street, but we realize that traffic on Crestline Drive will increase significantly due to the construction.  The City had intended to mill and overlay the Crestline detour area next year as the construction on Bob Billings Parkway and Iowa Street commences.  The project makes sense to do at this time, as KU will have the road under construction anyway.  The City share of the estimated cost is approximately $75,000 for the mill and overlay and some curb repair.  The funding would come from the infrastructure sale tax and could be added to the City’s current Phase 2 Project.

Action Requested:  Authorize a change order in the amount of $75,000 for the milling and overlay and associated curb repair to Crestline Drive.
