Jayhawk Jog 5K
|
Please place this item on the next available City Commission meeting agenda.
The KU Alumni Association has applied for a temporary use of public right-of-way permit for a 5K on Sunday, October 21, 2012. The race would begin around 8:00 a.m. on Massachusetts Street adjacent to South Park, with runners staging on the street beginning at about 7:55 a.m. Runners would run in the northbound lane of Massachusetts St to 7th St, then turn east and run through East Lawrence until looping back to South Park (see attached map).
Staff is seeking City Commission approval of this right-of-way permit because the race will close the northbound lane of Massachusetts Street downtown from about 8:00 a.m. – 8:25 a.m. Parking on Massachusetts St would not be prohibited, although vehicles parked on the east side of Massachusetts St would not be able to leave as runners pass by. The police department will provide traffic control at necessary locations along the route, but it is anticipated that most, if not all, of the traffic control can be accomplished through signage and volunteers.
ACTION: Approve a temporary use of public right-of-way permit for use of various city streets, including the closure of the northbound lane of Massachusetts Street downtown from approximately 8:00 a.m. – 8:25 a.m., on Sunday, October 21, 2012, for the Jayhawk Jog 5K.
