RE: Walking Trail – Deerfield Park
Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the August 21st, 2012, meeting:
Project Description
Through neighborhood discussions of the Deerfield Park master plan, there was a great deal of interest in developing a neighborhood walking trial in the park. It is anticipated this will be used by neighborhood walkers and school fitness classes.
To date, improvements in the park have included a new basketball court, a new skate park, upgraded lights on the courts, fencing at the ends of the court, a new drinking fountain, new sidewalks and benches.
Staff recommends using the unit price bids, received in 2012 for concrete finishing work, to install the trail and other needed concrete work to connect it to existing facilities. Elite Construction Services was the low bidder for this work in 2012. Using this pricing, the estimated cost of the needed concrete work would be $30,000.
Project Funding
The Deerfield Park renovation was approved by the City Commission and was bond funded at a total cost of $150,000 for design and upgrade of facilities in the park. If this project is approved, there would be approximately $15,000 remaining in this project fund for completion of the park renovation.
Action Request
Authorize the City Manager to sign a purchase requisition to Elite Construction up to $30,000 for installation of a walking trail and connecting sidewalks at Deerfield Park.
