Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the July 24, 2012 meeting:

Award Bid #B1240 for Contractor Services to Complete Emergency Sanitary Sewer, Force Main, and Air Relief Valve Repairs to Vito’s Plumbing and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract agreement.

Project Description

Collapsed sewer mains, severe sewer pipe fractures and other defects need immediate repair to prevent sanitary sewer overflows and backups into customer homes. The department averages 45 emergency repairs annually, which range in price from $3,000 to $14,000 per repair.

The bid is for emergency sanitary sewer repairs for one year from 8/01/12 through 08/01/13 with the option to renew that contract for an additional four one-year periods with the agreement of both parties. The current contract expires August 1, 2012.

On July 17, 2012, bids were received and opened from RD Johnson Excavating and Vito’s Plumbing (see attached). Vito’s Plumbing submitted the low unit bid pricing.

Project Funding

The work will be funded from the 2012 Operations and Maintenance budget for 501.7.7410.2538.

Action Request

Staff recommends award of Bid #B1240 for Contractor Services to Emergency Sanitary Sewer, Force Mains, and Air Relief Valve Repairs to Vito’s Plumbing.
