RE:	Iowa Street Resolution No. 6978

Please include the following item on the City Commission Consent Agenda for consideration at the July 17, 2012 meeting.

Resolution No. 6978:  A resolution of the City of Lawrence, KS, ordering the improvement and authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds for certain main trafficway improvements.

Background

Each year the City completes a mill and overlay of state highways that are within the city limits.  Those streets include:

US 59:	Iowa Street and N. 2^nd Street
HWY 40:	6^th Street
K-10:	23^rd Street

KDOT provides a maintenance assistance KLINK program, which matches the cost of the project 50/50 up to a maximum of $200,000.

In 2013 the KLINK project is the mill and overlay of South Iowa Street, from 29^th Street south to the south city limits.  The project estimate is approximately $530,000.  The resolution authorizes $400,000 in General Obligation Bonds for maintenance on Iowa Street which will include the matching funds for the KLINK program.

Action Request

Approve Resolution No. 6978 authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds for main trafficway improvements on Iowa Street in an amount of $400,000.
