Utilities Pipe Crew Truck Beds and Air Compressors

 

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the July 17, 2012 meeting:

 

Background Information:

Utilities Department is requesting to purchase two (2) utility bodies and under body air compressors with installation for the truck chassis’ requested on the previous memo.  To reduce the costs of a formal bid process staff has inspected this equipment as installed on a City of Olathe Utilities Department truck. We have received permission from the City of Olathe and American Equipment (the low bidder) to purchase bodies and air compressors from the Olathe bid. The local bid policy does not apply because Lawrence does not have a commercial truck equipment dealership.

 

Current Status:

The equipment needed to complete these trucks can be purchased from the City of Olathe bid contract for $46,947 each for a total of $93,894. Up-fitting dealer would be American Equipment. Staff has reviewed the contract and determined this is the most cost effective way to proceed with this purchase.

 

Funding:

Funding for capital equipment was approved during the 2012 budget process for Utilities Department.

 

Action Request:

Approve the purchase of the additional equipment to complete the Utilities Department crew trucks from the City of Olathe bid contract.
