Set Bid Date – City Bid No. B1241 2011 Sidewalk Gap Program - City Project No. PW1113 July 10 City Commission Meeting Agenda Item |
Introduction
Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), a federal aid program, is intended to improve the quality of life and environ in the low to moderate income area. With no other steady source of funding, allocation of CDBG funds for the ongoing Sidewalk Gap Program for the past few years has made a positive impact by closing many critical gaps and thereby improving the walk-ability and safety of pedestrians. As a result, this program has been well received by the community. The Sidewalk Gap Program has contributed towards the Commission’s goal to “improve the livability of all Lawrence neighborhoods”.
Project Details / Status
This project consists of installing new sidewalks in the low-mod areas of the city in order to close gaps at various selected locations. Some of the major locations where new sidewalks will be placed include Iowa Street from Harvard Road to 6th Street, Iowa Street from 27th Street to 29th Terrace, 6th Street east of Iowa, 7th Street east of Iowa, New Hampshire from 17th Street to 19th Street and the 11th Street and Vermont Street intersection (see attached map).
