On Monday, May 21, 2012, the City of Lawrence, Douglas County, Wakarusa Township, and the City of Ottawa opened sealed bids for road salt in a cooperative purchasing agreement. Last year the City purchased 3,500 tons of road salt in a cooperative bid for $49.98 a ton. The City averages using 3000 tons of salt a year however due to the mild winter only 750 tons were used. This year the City requested bids for 2,500 tons of salt with the option to buy an additional 1000 tons in the spring of 2013. Cargill held their 2011 price at $49.98 a ton. The results are:

Recommendation Action:
Award bid for 2,500 tons of road salt for Public Works Department to Cargill Salt for $49.98 a ton or $124,950.00 with an option for additional 1,000 tons if needed for $49,980.00, total $174.930.00. (Public Works/Streets)
