RE:               Basketball Court – Deerfield Park

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the May 22nd, 2012, meeting:

Project Description

Through neighborhood discussions of the Deerfield Park master plan, there was a great deal of interest in maintaining a lighted basketball court in park. The existing court was removed earlier this year due to the poor condition of the concrete surface.

Staff recommends using the unit price bids, received in 2012 for concrete finishing work, to install the basketball court. Elite Construction Services was the low bidder for this work in 2012. Using this pricing, the estimated cost of the basketball court and connecting concrete sidewalks is $30,000.

Project Funding

The Deerfield Park renovation was approved by the City Commission and was bond funded at a total cost of $150,000 for design and upgrade of facilities in the park. The basketball court was one of the facilities scheduled for improvement.

Action Request

Authorize the City Manager to sign purchase requisitions to Elite Construction up to $30,000 for installation of a concrete basketball court and connecting sidewalks at Deerfield Park.
