MEMBERS PRESENT:           Jon Josserand, Bob Moody, Ken Albrecht, Stacey VanHouten, Michael Kennedy, Ione Unruh, Dennis Christilles, Kathleen Hodge, Sue Hack, Ted Juneau, Billy Williams

MEMBERS ABSENT:             Matt Hoy, Kelly Herndon, Michelle Jennings

Chair Josserand opened the regular monthly meeting in the city commission chambers at City Hall at 5:30 on April 11, 2012

Josserand

·         Jon Josserand passed around some information regarding Douglas County   Community Foundation (DCCF). 

·         He informed the board that the Lawrence Sister Cities Advisory Board (SCAB) wasn’t awarded the grant which would have paid for four trips to Hiratsuka for those outside of the student exchange.  Discussions followed regarding what we could do differently/should we apply again.  

 

Moody

·         Bob Moody announced that all accounts are now accessible online.  Jon and Kelly will meet in the near future to discuss funds and the budget details.  City outside agency funding requests is due April 30.

 

Josserand

·         Jon suggested that we once again request $7500 from the city.

·         $4000 in membership donations have been received so far this year.

·         A webinar on 4/25/2012 at 1:00 EST through Sister Cities International will be offered.  The topic is “Raising Money via the Internet”. 

·         Discussion regarding getting new SCAB members names/email addresses to Sister Cities International. 

 

Albrecht

Friends of Eutin

·         Ken Albrecht reported that the Lawrence student delegation that will be going to Eutin (May 26 – June 17) has increased by one student to a total of 10, and that all preparations are going well.

·         The German American Studies is hosting a meeting and dinner on April 13.  Board members were invited to attend the post after dinner performance of a choir group from Germany.

 

Hilliard

Friends of Hiratsuka

James Hilliard (president of Friends of Hiratsuka) gave an overview of the student exchange program – Documents were handed out.

 

Friends of Iniades

·         Discussion ensued about travel/arrival dates to Athens for those planning on participating in the 5th year anniversary visit to Iniades, Greece.

·         An approximate cost of $1,700-$2,000 is the estimated cost for airfare.
