The Building Safety Division issued 236 building permits in April, with total construction for the month valued at $19,790,910.  Total permit fees assessed for the month were $116,012.  Monthly and year to date comparisons to previous years will be tracked throughout 2012 in the following table:

Staff issued 31 permits for new residential construction in April, including 9 single-family dwellings and 22 multi-family dwellings.  This compares to 14 permits issued for new residential construction in April last year, all for single-family dwellings.  Monthly and year-to-date statistics for total permits issued and new residential projects will be tracked in the following table, similar to permit valuation and fees:

Renovation of existing homes is a segment of the construction industry for which tracking of statistics may also be of interest.  BSD issued 24 permits for residential remodeling and addition of one- and two-family dwellings projects in April.  The following charts compare the numbers of permits issued for both new homes and remodeling projects in April and Year-to-Date for the previous five years:

 

 

 

 

The highest valued projects for the month were for the Westfield Place apartments, 204 Eisenhower Drive, valued at $8,325,652; the Varsity House apartments, 1043 Indiana Street, valued at $3,986,500; a renovation of the north wing second floor at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine Street, valued at $1,500,000; and a building addition for Raintree Montessori School, 4601 Clinton Parkway, valued at $1,400,000.

 

Four permits were issued for public projects, including the north wing addition at LMH; a tenant remodel at the Medical Office Building at LMH, 325 Maine Street, valued at $350,000; a tenant remodel at LMH South, 3500 Clinton Place, valued at $190,000; and the replacement of a canopy structure at the city fueling facility at 1140 Haskell Avenue, valued at $35,435.
