RE:

BBP & K10 Interchange

City Commission Agenda May 1, 2012

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is currently developing plans for the construction of an interchange at the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway and K-10 Highway.  The Interchange is another project that is being funded through the T-Works Program.

The project includes a standard diamond interchange (similar to W. 6th Street and Hwy 40 and K-10).  Bob Billings Parkway will be extended to the overpass and tie into N. 1500 Road on the west side of K-10.  The project will also include sidewalks on each side of the bridge and bike lanes across the bridge that tie into the bike lanes on Bob Billings Parkway.  The multiuse path that parallels K-10 will cross under Bob Billings Parkway similar to the crossing at 6th Street.  KDOT has already met with some of the adjacent property owners and discussed the improvements.  The project is anticipated to bid in March 2014 with completion contemporaneously with the South Lawrence Trafficway.

The anticipated project cost is approximately $17,000,000.  The state has requested that the City and County participate in an amount of $2,000,000.  The City’s share/contribution will be a City Commission decision during the budget process.

No action is being requested, this report/presentation is informational.
