Request by Lawrence 360 Church to install artificial turf as part of a new infant and toddler playground.

Lawrence 360 Church, 3200 Clinton Parkway, has submitted a request to install artificial turf as part of their new infant and toddler playground. The new playground will be used as part of the new daycare that will be opening within the church. According to the applicant, the new playground will be located on the north side of the church. As that area is shaded throughout the day, grass is hard to maintain.
Per Chapter 18, Article 4, Section 18-402(b) of the City Code the use of artificial turf must be limited and of small scale and be approved by the Lawrence City Commission.
The size of the space that will utilize the artificial turf is approximately 15’x56’ (840 sq. ft.). The applicant has submitted a letter and site plan with this request.
Staff Recommendation: If appropriate, approve the request by Lawrence 360 Church to install artificial turf as part of the new infant and toddler playground.
