Minutes
Meeting was brought to order at 6:03 pm, by Daniel Beebe in Mr. Myers absence.
Minutes from the May 4th, 2011 meeting had been provided to all members. Lisher made a motion to accept the minutes, Hethcoat seconded the motion; the motion passed unanimously.
Correspondence
An email had been received in regards to an open position on the Board. After reviewing the document all Members present agreed it should be forwarded on to City Hall for his appointment to the vacant position.
Unfinished Business
A question was raised regarding a pool installation that was denied an appeal some time ago as to what the status was of that project. Staff said he didn’t recall exactly, but would contact to owner to resolve the issue and report back.
New Business
Some discussion was held regarding the review of the 2011 NEC and 2012 IRC during the 2012 year. Staff passed along what his office might want undertaken in regards to the review process.
Beebe thought he may be done serving his 2nd term in March of this year.
King asked about our Board being responsible for the IRC.
Staff responded that our Board reviews the electrical section of the IRC.
King asked how the Board typically handles the review, chapter assignments etc.
Staff responded that in the past he has identified changes in the Code where we have amendments and we look at those first. On occasion the Code changes and one of our amendments will go away, such as with the balcony receptacle amendment we have. The Code has changed the language to include what we had added as an amendment. Beebe commented that he likes hearing that.
Hethcoat questioned how our jurisdiction looked at cooking equipment or permanent provisions for cooking in assisted care living.
Staff said they only considered ranges or counter mounted cooking units as permanent provisions for cooking. Only the manager’s suites at the latest development of that type were considered to be dwelling units and require the arc-fault protected circuits in the bedrooms.
Hethcoat asked if we had done anything with GFCI’s as far as amendments.
Members stated that we amended the use of a single receptacle in lieu of a GFCI for garage door openers, refrigerators, freezers, and sump pumps.
Lisher mentioned that some jurisdictions require arc-faults installed when the service is changed. Members voiced concerns that many circuits would be unable to be protected by the standard arc-fault.
Lisher stated he hasn’t had much trouble with the latest version of AFCI’s and nuisance tripping.
Hethcoat mentioned they have had some issues with electronic versus magnetic ballasts causing nuisance trips.
Members decided not to elect a Chair and Co-Chair until all members are present.
Hethcoat brought forward a question on the installation and connection of a jockey pump from a fire pump controller. The NEC handbook was consulted and members weighed in on the topic.
Adjournment
Lisher made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Beebe; motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Phil Burke, Secretary
