RE:

Repair Summary of Item 35 from 2011 Pump Rehab

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the April 17, 2012 meeting:

Authorize the City Manager to approve payment to JCI Industries for $15,215 for the repair of Item 35 from 2011 Pump Rehab for Pump Station 32 located at 1723 East 30th.

Project History

This pump was installed new in 2001 during the construction of the pump station. Utilities staff has provided routine and regular service since installation. During routine maintenance it appeared that this pump was having vibration issues. This pump was selected as part of the 2011 pump rehab project.

Project Status

JCI Industries was the low bidder on this pump. The city issued purchase order (PO#003469) for an estimate of $6,946 to cover the repairs. During disassembly at JCI Industries shop, they determined the impeller needed to be replaced and the case ring needed to be machined and replaced. JCI Industries made a confined space entry to retrieve this pump, which was not part of the original bid. The cost of the additional repair work is $8,269 for a new total of $15,215. A new replacement pump is estimated to cost $21,331 and would take 6 months to acquire.

Project Funding

Funding for the work is from the Utilities Department 2012 Operations and Maintenance Budget.

Action Request: Staff recommends authorizing the City Manager to approve payment to JCI in the amount of $15,215 for the repair of Item 35 from 2011 Pump Rehab for Pump Station 32 located at 1723 East 30th.
