POOL PAINTING – OUTDOOR AQUATIC CENTER – PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT – #B1224

Parks and Recreation requested bids to paint the pools at the Outdoor Aquatic Center.  The pools were painted five years ago and are now showing wear and cracking on the sides and bottom. This painting needs to be done every four or five years to protect the pool infrastructure and maintain the appearance of the facility.  If approved the pools will be painted in late summer after they have been closed for the season. 

The lowest bid provided for the project was F&H Coatings LLC from Kechi, KS. They bid $49,635.85, but seemed to have limited experience in painting pools. We requested references for past pool work, they did not respond to this request. This company is an unknown vendor to us; McGivern has done a great deal of work for the City with very good results. If this work is not done correctly, the painted surfaces of the pool will crack and peel in a short period of time.

This project is being funded by general obligation bonds. The bonds were approved in August of 2011.
