March 27 2012 Agenda Item – Award Bid for Kaw Water Treatment Plant Sludge Collector Drive Replacement

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the March 27, 2012 meeting:

Award Bid No. B1212 for Kaw Water Treatment Plant Sludge Collector Drive Replacement to CAS Constructors, LLC in the amount of $59,561.00 and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract agreement.

Project History/Status

The Kaw Water Treatment Plant currently has five basins that have sludge collection equipment. Two of the drive mechanisms were replaced in 2010 as part of the O&M budget. Last year the O&M budget allowed for replacement of one drive. However, an emergency replacement of another drive also occurred. The remaining drive needing replacement is over twenty years old and has needed repair several times. This sludge collector drive is currently in use at the Kaw Water Treatment Plant and has exceeded its serviceable life.

On 2/7/12 the City Commission set a bid date of March 13, 2012. Three bids were opened as follows:

          CAS Constructors, LLC - $59,561.00

          Blaze Mechanical, Inc. - $63,716.00

          Midland Contractors, Inc. - $95,000.00

Project Funding:

The project will be funded from the 2012 Operations and Maintenance budget 501.7.7220.6034.
