Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:  On Sunday, March 25, 2012, the University of Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team dominantly defeated the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in an exciting Elite 8 victory; and

 

WHEREAS:  This win provides the University of Kansas with its 14th opportunity in program history to play in the National Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, and the second opportunity for a team to advance to the Final Four under the leadership of Coach Bill Self; and

 

WHEREAS:  The City of Lawrence proudly supports the University of Kansas and each of its respective athletic programs.  Our community benefits from the excitement and revelry that surrounds well-recognized and respected programs; and

 

WHEREAS:  Lawrence has long-been recognized as the place where the game of basketball took shape and grew from concept to cornerstone of college athletic programs. We look forward to celebrating with our fellow fans, proudly displaying our time-honored traditions and cheering on the Jayhawks; and

 

WHEREAS:  As a community, we’ll be watching on Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. as KU takes on Ohio State in New Orleans. Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU!

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Aron Cromwell, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby recognize the 2011-2012 Kansas Men’s Basketball Team and the University of Kansas Jayhawks for their hard work and determination that has led to this 14th Final Four berth.
