On March 6, 2012 the City of Lawrence opened bids for the following: |

Bid#1218 – One (1) Front Load Refuse Truck– Public Works Department |
Solid Waste equipment is replaced according to our equipment replacement schedule. The equipment replacement schedule is based on age, mileage, hours of use, and cost of maintenance and upkeep. Unit 411 is a 2003 front load truck with high mileage and high maintenance costs. The cost of repairs has exceeded the price of the truck.
The truck specifications required an advanced technology system which will save the City approximately 30% fuel costs over the trucks we now use to do the same job. Only two trucks bid the advanced technology system (highlighted), they were from Truck Components Services. None of the other vendors bid trucks with our required specifications (please see attachment).
The City was offered $38,500 trade-in for unit 411. Only two trucks were sold on Gov Deals in the last six months. One sold for $22,005 and the other for $13,900. We would like to trade this unit in. This purchase was approved in the 2012 budgeting process.
