RE: |
Install video detection system on intersection of N. 3rd and KTA Entrance/Exit
|
Project Description
The 2012 Street Maintenance Program includes micro-surfacing of North 2nd / North 3rd Street from Lincoln Street to the north city limit. As part of the micro-surfacing project, the intersection of North 3rd and KTA entrance/exit will be improved. The proposed improvements include street work, reconstruction of the islands, storm sewer, landscaping, and other aesthetic improvements.
Underground detection loops are always at risk of being cut or damaged during street maintenance work and often require replacement. Therefore, instead of installing a new detection loop under the pavement, staff is recommending video detection system for this busy intersection. The video cameras mounted on the Traffic Signal Mast Arm generally remain unaffected by road maintenance/construction, can detect cars at the intersection and adjust the phasing of the traffic signal.
The video detection system will include four cameras, two flashing yellow arrows, and a new traffic control cabinet.
