Purchase of Fire Turnout Gear

Please include the following item on a future City Commission meeting agenda.
Background:
The Fire Medical department issues and maintains structural firefighting gear for each uniformed member of the department. In 2011 the department organized a project team to evaluate three manufacturers of turnout gear. The manufacturers that were evaluated were: Morning Pride, Lion, and Globe. The project team chose Lion after an extensive evaluation process.
Bid Status:
The Fire Medical Department solicited bids (#B1217) for supplying the Department with Structural Turnout Gear firefighting. The Notice to Bidders set out the specifications for the gear and the quantity requested. The Department received two bids from suppliers. The submitted bids were reviewed and analyzed to determine the low bid from the responses, meeting the Department’s specifications. All bidders met specifications and the low bid was selected.

City Funding:
The bid award will be funded from the FY 2012 Fire Medical Operating Budget.
Action Request:
Fire Medical Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to Conrad Fire Equipment for the purchase of 25 sets of structural turnout gear not to exceed $42,125, renewable for an additional four years providing funds are available and both parties agree.
