RE:	Draft 2013 Budget Calendar

Please place the following item on the agenda for consideration by the City Commission at their meeting on March 27, 2012.

Consider draft 2013 budget calendar, and adopt if appropriate.

Background

Attached is a draft calendar for the 2013 budget process.  It includes four budget study sessions, each scheduled on a Tuesday night prior to a regularly scheduled City Commission meeting.  The calendar provides three opportunities for public comment, however, the public is always welcome to contact the City via the City’s website or by attending a City Commission meeting. 

The draft calendar establishes June 28 and the tentative release date for the City Manager’s  Recommended Budget.  The Commission would authorize publication on the budget on July 10, setting the maximum mill levy for the 2013 budget.  The statutorily required budget hearing is tentatively set for July 24, with adoption of the budget ordinance tentatively scheduled for the same City Commission meeting. 

According to state statutes, the City must file the budget with the County by August 25^th. 

Recommended Action

Staff recommends the City Commission consider the draft 2013 budget calendar, and adopt if appropriate.
