RE:                  Authorize the Mayor to execute an Automatic Aid Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between the City of Lawrence, Kansas and Douglas County Fire District No. 1 and submit it to the Kansas Attorney General for approval

Please place the following item on the March 27, 2012 consent agenda for approval: 

Authorize the Mayor to execute an Automatic Aid Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between the City of Lawrence, Kansas and Douglas County Fire District No. 1 and submit it to the Kansas Attorney General for approval.

Pursuant to Resolution No. 6769, the City has a policy to provide assistance to other municipalities including Fire District No. 1 in times of disaster. This interlocal agreement allows the City to respond to calls from Berry Plastics manufacturing located in Douglas County, Kansas.

K.S.A. 12-2904 requires that the Kansas Attorney general approve any interlocal agreement by public agencies. The attached agreement has been reviewed by the City and Fire District No. 1 and if executed, will be forwarded to the Kansas Attorney General for final approval.

ACTION REQUESTED: Authorize the Mayor to execute an Automatic Aid Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between the City of Lawrence, Kansas and Douglas County Fire District No. 1 and submit it to the Kansas Attorney General for approval.
