Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: An unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, multiple sclerosis (MS) disrupts the flow of information between and individual’s body and brain; and
WHEREAS: MS affects an estimated 2.5 million worldwide, 400,000 in the United States and over 4,000 people living with MS in Kansas; and
WHEREAS: Often first diagnosed in individuals aged 20-50, MS is the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults; and
WHEREAS: March 12 – 16, 2012, the National MS Society will sponsor MS Awareness Week for the City of Lawrence; and
WHEREAS: The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is to mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Aron Cromwell, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim March 12 – 16, 2012 as
in the City of Lawrence and encourage everyone to recognize efforts to diagnose, treat, and manage this disorder and commend this observance to all our citizens.
