Repair Summary of Blower 3 at Wastewater Treatment Plant

 

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the March 13, 2012 meeting:

 

Authorize the City Manager to approve the payment to Cullum & Brown for $28,880 for the repair of Blower 3 at Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

Project History

The blowers at the Wastewater Treatment Plant were installed in 2002. Utilities staff has provided routine and regular service since installation. In December 2011, staff noticed increased vibration during routine operation of this blower. Vibration testing indicated that it was internal to the unit and would need to be completely disassembled for inspection.

 

Project Status

Cullum & Brown was selected and city issued purchase order (PO#004558) for an estimate of $14,000.00 to cover the repairs. During disassembly at Cullum & Browns shop, they determined the three (3) intermediate plate vanes will require additional work. The plates will require sandblasting, welding, and coating. The additional repairs will cost $14,880.00 more. Replacement of the intermediate plates will cost $33,240 making the total $47,240.00. A new blower is estimated to cost $90,000.00.

 

Project Funding

Funding for the work is from the Utilities Department 2012 Operations and Maintenance Budget.

 

Action Request: Staff recommends authorizing the City Manager to approve payment to JCI in the amount of $28,880.00 for the repair of Blower 3 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
