Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:  The Lawrence Public Library serves as the heart of Lawrence, providing informational, intellectual, and cultural resources for the entire community; and

 

WHEREAS:  An exciting new chapter is beginning at the Lawrence Public Library with its upcoming expansion and renovation and the success of the New Stories Capital Campaign; and

 

WHEREAS:  A celebration of this community support will take place on March 13, 2012 at the Lied Center with NPR legend Susan Stamberg; and

 

WHEREAS:  Ms. Stamberg will provide a glimpse into her 40 years as an NPR reporter and master storyteller, including details of her annual story on her mother-in-law’s cranberry relish; and

 

WHEREAS:  A community-wide cranberry recipe contest was held to build excitement for the March 13, 2012 “Libraries, Cranberries, and New Stories” celebratory event; and

 

WHEREAS:  The library and Lawrence Originals restaurants will partner to join in this community wide celebration by serving cranberry based dishes during the week of Susan Stamberg’s visit;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Aron Cromwell, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim March 6 – 13, 2012 as

 

CRANBERRY WEEK

 

And March 13, 2012 as

 

SUSAN STAMBERG DAY

 

And encourage all citizens of Lawrence to continue their support of the Lawrence Public Library.
