RE:

Repair Summary of Pump 6 at Pump Station 5 located at 2701 Delaware

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the February 21, 2012 meeting:

Authorize the City Manager to approve the payment to JCI for $26,388  for the repair of Pump 6 at Pump Station 5.

Project History

The pumps at Pump Station 5 were installed in 2000. Utilities staff has provided routine and regular service since installation. In December 2011, staff found a leak at the base of the volute for Pump 6 in December of 2011.

Project Status

Utilities staff purchased the parts and selected JCI to make the repair. Purchase order 004543 for $2,066.00 was issued for pulling the pump and parts installation. When the vendor pulled the pump, they found that the impeller had come loose and cut into the volute head, causing the leak. The City issued a purchase order (PO#004680) for an estimate of $14,000.00 to cover the repairs. During the pump disassembly at JCI’s shop, they determined that the impeller will also require replacement, including installation of a new mechanical seal, boring and bushing of bearing housings, and installation of new bearings and a new terminal board. The total cost of the repair will be $26,388.00. As a comparison, a new pump is estimated to cost $100,000.

Project Funding

Funding for the work is from the Utilities Department 2012 Operations and Maintenance Budget.

Action Request: Staff recommends authorizing the City Manager to approve payment to JCI in the amount of $26,388.00 for the repair of Pump 6 at Pump Station 5.
