On February 14, 2012, the City of Lawrence opened proposals for the storm sewer pipe and corresponding precast curb inlets and junction boxes for Project No. PW1126 – Delaware Street, 8th to 9th Street, Storm Sewer, & Waterline Improvements – City Bid No. B1216.

Project Description & History. The construction of Delaware Street, between 8th and 9th Streets, coincides with the redevelopment of the Poehler Building. City Project No. PW1126 includes the construction of Delaware Street, storm sewer installation and water line improvements. An agreement between the developer of the Poehler Building and the City states that the street and its corresponding infrastructure will be completed on or before September 1, 2012. In an effort to meet this deadline it was deemed necessary to receive bids for the corresponding storm sewer infrastructure only. This would allow the fabricator time to submit shop drawings for the precast curb inlets and junction boxes as well as begin casting of the concrete pipe on the project. Due to the quantity of large diameter and varying sized pipe it is essential to begin production of the storm sewer infrastructure as soon as possible. Obviously the storm sewer installation is on the critical path of the completion of the project on time.
Project Funding. The storm sewer pipe, curb inlets and junction boxes is funded from Stormwater Utility Fund.
Action Request. Award bid for storm sewer pipe, precast curb inlets and junction boxes for Project No. PW1126, Delaware Street, 8th to 9th Street, Storm Sewer, & Waterline Improvements to Cretex Concrete Products Midwest in the amount of $99,625.00, provided the fabricator can meet the terms established in the contract documents.
