ELECTRICAL WORK – PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT – #B1201

Parks and Recreation requested bids for unit pricing of electrical work.  This bid is for small jobs and small repairs costing less than $15,000 for the 2012 calendar year and was written so other City departments can utilize the pricing.  The bid was also written to be renewed for four additional years providing prices remain the same, both parties agree and funds are available. 

Randall Electric bid higher on the hourly rate for journeyman electrician than P1 Group, Superior Electric and Mohl Electric however Randall Electric’s rate for an apprentice was less than P1 Group and Superior Electric.  Approximately 95% of calls for electrical work require a journeyman and at least one apprentice making Randall Electric the least expensive choice for the City.

Many times the City has many electrical jobs going at one time.  The specifications required the contractors to have enough employees to have multiple jobs going at the same time.  Mohl Electric is a very small company and is unable to meet this requirement.

These projects will come out of many accounts that were approved in the 2012 budgeting process. 

Recommendation Action: 

Award bid for hourly rates for electrical work for Parks and Recreation Department to Randall Electric (Parks and Recreation accounts)
