RE:

Fifteen Minute Parking Meters – 1100 block of Massachusetts

On April 27, 2010, the City Commission approved the installation of 15 minute parking meters in the 600 – 1000 blocks of Massachusetts Street. Recently, staff received a request to install one 15 minute meter in the 1100 block, in front of Curry-In-A-Hurry (1111 Massachusetts Street). The request was submitted by Leroy Young (1113 Massachusetts Street) and was also signed by representatives of Curry-In-A-Hurry and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop (1115 Massachusetts Street).

Installation of the meter would cost around $170 to have the meter head painted yellow, replace the mechanism and replace the rate plate. Ordinance No. 8518, previously adopted by the City Commission, sets the rate ($0.25 per fifteen minutes) and color of the 15 minute meters. The meters are subject to the same overtime fine as other downtown parking meters and lots. The location of the meters does not need to be set by ordinance.

All businesses on the 1100 block of Massachusetts will be notified that this item is to be considered by the City Commission on January 17.

ACTION:      Approve installation of a 15 minute parking meter adjacent to 1111 Massachusetts Street.
