Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the January 03, 2012 meeting:

Approval of the final change order to the construction contract with RD Johnson Excavating for Project UT0810DS Phase II of Watermain Replacement Program; increasing the contract amount by $35,312.48.

 

Project Description

Replacement of the existing watermains along 9th Street from Vermont Street to Tennessee Street, Tennessee Street from 9th Street to 10th Street, Kentucky Street from 12th Street to 19th Street, 18th Street from Tennessee to Kentucky Street, and 13th Street from Vermont to Tennessee Street as shown on the attached exhibit.

 

Project Status/ Details

On June 14, 2011 bids were received from the following (3) bidders. The bids were opened and the bids listed below publicly read aloud.

On June 21, 2011 the project was awarded to the low bidder RD Johnson Excavating.

 

Construction of the project has been completed with minor punchlist items of work remaining to be completed prior to final acceptance of the project.

 

During the course of construction, additional items of work were required, based on actual existing conditions, to complete the installation including the following:

 

 

These changes comprise $26,538.48 of the total change order, final quantity adjustments to the bid items, based on contract bid unit costs, account for a total of $8,774.00.

 

Construction Contract Costs:

 

Original Contract       $1,423,333.00

Change Order No. 1  $    35,312.48

Contract total           $1,458,645.48

 

To date, change order adjustments represent 2.5% of the original contract amount. Pending authorization of the change order and adjustment of the final contract amount, RD Johnson Excavating will submit a final application for payment.

 

Project Funding

The project is funded from a combination of 2009 and reallocated 2007 Bond Funds. The 2009 Bond proceed balance is remaining from the Build America Bonds. Per the terms of the Bond these funds must be expended prior to August of 2012 to maintain their non-taxable status and will be expended prior to the utilization of the remaining 2007 Bond proceeds.

 

Action Request: Approval of final change order to the construction contract with RD Johnson Excavating for Project UT0810DS Phase II of Watermain Replacement Program; increasing the contract amount by $35,312.48.
